THM eat at home challenge!

Does anyone else struggle with eating out? I don't mean to brag, but sometimes I'm an awesome Trim Healthy Mama when I eat at home. Seriously. I can be diligent, and not take those nibbles of the kids' pizza, or eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's (which is something I did regularly before THM!). I think it's easier for most people to eat well at home.  But when I'm out, I struggle. It's SO EASY for me to grab a french fry (or seven) when we're eating out. Or a giant Chipotle tortilla. Or whatever I want, because I'm out of the house, and everyone knows that food choices don't count when you're eating out, right? (Wrong!)

I am very, very excited to bring this Trim Healthy Mama Bloggers' Eat at Home Challenge to you! Nine of us who blog THM recipes have joined forces to challenge YOU to eat at home this week – and stay on plan! Make a good choice for your health, your waistline, and your wallet, and just eat at home! I am doing this with you, and the best part is that we have done the work for you! We put together a menu of our favorite recipes, along with a shopping list, so you can jump in and get started.

Wait – maybe that's not the best part. Maybe the best part is that you can enter to win a Trim Healthy Mama gift certificate! You can buy protein powder, sweet blend, baking blend…whatever your heart desires (as long as it's in stock and totals under $40). You may need to mix up the meal order to make sure you're eating the best possible meals for your weight loss (you can read the details of how to combine foods and lose weight in the book Trim Healthy Mama). You may need fewer E meals, or more of them. Or you don't need to use this meal plan at all. What's important is that you make healthy choices and save money by eating at home!

Here is your printable menu and shopping list: Download The Menu is linked to the recipes so you can go directly to the websites where the recipes are published.

The shopping list includes ingredients by recipe. That way, if there's a recipe you'd rather skip, you can cross-off that whole section and move on to the next!

This challenge lasts for one week – starting this Monday, July 6th. At the end of the week we'll announce the winner!

…and here is where you can enter to win!  Contest has been closed 🙂

I'm planning to stay home as much as possible this week and pack snacks for when I'm out. What's your strategy? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m leaving on vacation Thursday morning but I’m not so great at planning more than 1-2 days ahead so this will really help me bring what I need to stay on plan. Thank you so much! 🙂

  2. I already have a home group pot luck this Thursday, and they have all begged for Hummingbird Cake. So I am already scheduled for a small cheat. But I’m game! 🙂 I love all the help that you all give … Thanks!!

  3. I stay close to home all the time and still struggle with on plan eating. I will be writing out my menu and STICKING TO IT! 🙂 Best of luck to everyone participating in the challenge – and a special thanks to the THM ladies who are hosting the challenge – this is just the “kick in the pants” I needed to get serious. 🙂

  4. This is a fantastic idea. I appreciate all the work you have put into this and I wish it was for more than a week! For those of us who work full time, this is a godsend!

  5. I’m excited about this! Will be travelling this week for medical reasons but we stay at the Ronald McDonald House and can cook for ourselves 😉 thank you for the shopping list!

    1. I’ll be thinking of you as you travel – I hope things go really well for you this week!

  6. This is out last calm week until Aug, so I’m enjoying plenty of home time. Plus I keep a baby everyday for a friend.
I’ve never been good at meal planning, but I love to cook.

  7. I am eating at home at much as possible this week. I have menus from several of you who have been so kind in sharing. I have been trying to look at them and use what items I have in the cupboard now to make up my meals. So far, so good on this 1st day. I don’t have any oolang tea to make the shrinker, so trying to stick with water when I feel the need to eat and it isn’t time. I think with all the encouragement given by so many, I have felt I can do this and stick with it. Thank you. Sue from Wisconsin

  8. In all honesty my hubby is taking our one and only car to work, so I am stuck at home as he works 12hr shifts 7pm-7am. So I will definitely be at home. 🙂

    1. I know the feeling! We’ve had one car for many years of our marriage. I always tell him that if I’m eating at home 24/7, I might as well make it good! 😉

  9. I will be eating at home for dinner all week, and packing my lunch & breakfast to eat at work, Friday I’m going hiking and taking a picnic lunch. My only struggle will be going to the movies, I love the popcorn!

  10. I’m participating in the challenge! We rarely eat out, but I am guilty of not planning well enough sometimes and picking up a pizza for supper instead. Thank you for the meal ideas!

  11. Love the Menu~ taking the challenge. Have a potluck on Saturday so will take my THM food. Do have business luncheon tomorrow and an out of a town business trip the end of the month, however, have a suite with a full kitchen so can make my meals there. Do have some business dinners to attend at that time also.

    1. That’s so great! The menu is just a tool to help you – the point is to avoid unnecessary meals out of the house. It sounds like you have a great plan!
