Thanks for the advice. I've been on THM for so long that I "think that way!" So, when Paleo was telling me to combine certain foods...I knew I'd have a hard time with it. :) So, I think I'll take your advice, look at the Paleo list, and try to do a combination of both. I have one more question...I've been at a PLATEAU for several months now. I still need to lose another 15 pounds. How can I get the pounds moving again? Thanks.

Hi Rachel! I think Paleo is great for eating natural, whole foods. However, my personal experience with the Paleo diet did not result in any weight loss. It does help some people to lose weight, but I think THM is superior for weight loss because of the balance.

One option is to eat the THM way with Paleo foods. Just take the Paleo food list and compare it to the THM food lists (I would write S, E, or FP next to each food on the list of Paleo foods). Then you can still combine the on-plan Paleo foods into S, E, or FP, and get the weight loss benefits as well. Just a thought!

That's great that you've stuck to it so well, Jen! I notice that I always lose far more consistently when I make sure I do the THM plan the way it was designed, with S, E, and FP. The food lists in the original book can give you good ideas for what to eat for each fuel type.

For S, you want to keep the carb count under 5g of carbs. For E, you want to keep it under 5g of fat. So an S meal is low-carb (if you're eating only S meals you're probably eating more of an Atkins diet than THM), and E meals are low-fat. FP has low-fat AND low-carb, and a good mix of the three meal types will keep your metabolism revving and are designed to jump start your weight loss. Here are some meal examples that might help:

S - pot roast, boiled green beans with butter and salt, big salad with salad dressing
E - seasoned baked chicken breast, black beans, brown rice, and salsa
FP - big salad with 3 ounces of chicken breast and light dressing (under 5 grams of fat)

I hope that helps a little! I can also recommend the new book, which I think is a lot more reader-friendly than the old book. :)

I've been doing low carb/high fat since the beginning of the year. My niece introduced me to THM and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. I have bought the first book and the cookbook trying to understand how it all works. I'm still not quite sure so I've been trying to stick to just the S meals. I've been stuck at a certain weight and am just such a visual person that wonder if it's really rather simple but I just can't get it lol. I have not only fallen off once and that was on a weekend getaway but I didn't do to bad and got right back at it. Can you help me understand how to do the S, then E and how in the world do I do that without gaining? Thanks so much
