What a great post, remebering that all children develop at a different pace is critical - I just found myself explaining to my parents that just because my nephew speaks clearer then my daughter, doesn't mean that she needs speech theropy. Thank you for this reminder, because as parents its easy to compare and get stuck in that comparrison.

Not only does this have great perspective, if you ever have felt out of place or less than adequate in your accomplishments, but my friend has hit the nail on the head with this title - thinking outside the box - as a parent and a home educator.

I loved the book Cheaper by the Dozen, written in biographical form by the two oldest children. But my favorite part of the book is actually the dedication. You should read those, because that is often a great insight into an author's motivation for writing.

It says (and I'm going by memory, so I could be off), "To Father: who raised only twelve children. And to Mother: who raised twelve only children." I think Kristen's is a great mother, mentor and educator, who sees her children as individuals with great potential.

Keep up the good work, friend...

[…] Sometimes we try to put our children “inside the same box” when another way is usually better. Jennifer Mason at Working at Homeschool asked me to do a guest post for her blog today. In the post, I share what it was like growing up as a homeschooler in my own family and how that has helped to shape my thoughts on how I want to homeschool and raise my own children. Hop on over to the post here to read all about it! https://thewellplannedkitchen.com/2017/01/06/homeschool-guest-post-think-outside-box […]
