Trim Healthy Table

I've had Trim Healthy Table for a few weeks now, and as I've been cooking my way through it, I'm finally ready to post a review!

I've tried many of the recipes, and we have enjoyed every single one. Seriously. This is my first time with a cookbook where we've loved everything, and I'm pretty impressed! This book truly includes family friendly meals (over 300!)- in fact, I would be happy to serve non-THM guests these meals, as well. I would definitely say that I'm getting my money's worth with this book and then some.

Before I jump in to explaining my favorite recipes, I need to take a moment to share that one of my recipes (Brownie Batter in a Mug) is included in the new book! Page 405, if you want to check it out yourself. I had no idea that Pearl Barrett, who co-wrote the book with her sister Serene Allison, would try any of my recipes, let alone like one enough to publish it in her cookbook! Workingathomeschool.com was mentioned in the Trim Healthy Mama Plan book as a meal planning resource, but in Trim Healthy Table they included one of my favorite creations. Pretty exciting for me!

On to the review –

The beginning of the book includes the clearest, most concise explanation of the Trim Healthy Mama Plan that I've read. I get daily emails from people who need help starting THM, and I've been so happy to direct them to the first few chapters of the new book. If you have any trouble understanding the plan, I recommend reading Trim Healthy Basics – Your Simple Start Guide beginning on page 17 before you jump in.

The recipes have been delicious, but I haven't tried them all yet, so I'm sure I'll be adding to my favorites list below!  Here are my recommendations for where to start:

Wonderful White Blender Bread p. 242 – easy, quick, and delicious. It's fluffy but not too eggy, and while it doesn't necessarily look exactly like regular bread, I've been using two slices with roast beef and mayo for a quick sandwich and I have not been disappointed. It does taste like bread to me, although a bit denser and somehow also squishier than regular bread. This has been a great bread substitute and it's really filling, too. For a busy mom, I think this is a must-make recipe to keep on hand.

Breakfast –

No-Bake Breakfast Cheesecakes p. 334

Cinnamon Sugar Toast p. 358

Big Bowl Egg Scram p. 331

Lunch –

Ramen Bowl p. 317 (I've made this three times, and it is SO good! I add a soft-boiled egg to mine for protein, and it tasted just like the expensive Ramen I get at restaurants).

Cream and Crunch Apple Tuna Salad p. 314

Beans ‘n' Cornbread p. 111

Dinner –

Addictive Greek Chicken p. 224

Flaky Parmesan Tilapia, p. 227

Little Sweet, Little Spicy Drumsticks p. 221

Snatch 'em Up Chicken Tenders p. 238

Marvelous Make Ahead Meatballs p. 208

Dessert –

Cini Minis p. 436 (I've made these three times in the past two weeks, they are THAT good)

Magic Salted Caramel Cupcakes p. 378

And, of course, Brownie Batter in a Mug, p. 405, because I'm still so excited to be included in the new cookbook.

Those are my top choices! If you need more meal ideas, I put together a quick video of my $118 THM grocery haul and the 10 dinners I made with those groceries.

What are your favorite recipes in the new book? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below!

  1. Hello, I noticed your name in the book – good for you! how exciting! I do have a question regarding the WWBB since you mention that you’ve tried, and like it. Does it HAVE to be baked in a glass loaf pan? Seems like a dumb question but I no longer own any glass pans and I’d hate to have to buy one just for this. Also, you didn’t mention it but have you tried any of the “flower” breads? I tried the first one and it wasn’t too bad. I think I need to add just a bit more sweetener. But my question is this: do you have a Blendtec? I do not and the cauliflower warmed up quite a bit before it turned into “snow”. I still had some little chunks – it wasn’t terrible, though. I’d like to find someone who doesn’t own a super powerful blender who’s had success with making the “snow” — and quite honestly, reading through all the facebook posts is quite daunting 🙂 thanks for your help and the suggestions! Carolyn

    1. Hi Carolyn! OK, so I did have much better results in a glass pan. My metal pan was OK, but the sides are sloped so it just wasn’t as good. I haven’t tried the flower breads, but I’ll let you know when I do!

I have a really old Vitamix, and in another recipe it handled the cauliflower really well. Are you using whole cauliflower, or pre-riced cauliflower? Buying the riced cauliflower might help.
